Bio

Hi, I’m 31 and a professional Ironman athlete. I’m also a professional cancer research scientist so I tend to be busy!

I grew up with my parents in North Lanarkshire and went to school at Airdrie Academy. In 1996 I moved to Dundee Uni and in 2007 I graduated with a PhD in biochemistry. I still work at the University in Cancer Research where my main interest is now MAPK signaling pathways.

In 2003 a colleague roped me in to a 1/2 marathon and after a few weeks training I knocked out a 1:29. Needless to say it’s gone downhill from there so to speak and have posted two sub 8:30 ironman finishes. As of Oct 2009 I am Scottish Long distance champion and have previously held the Scottish Iron distance record holder with my 8:23:49 PB at Challenge Roth.

I live with my girlfriend Jen Eilertsen another top Scottish triathlete who has podiumed across the distances this year at Scottish championships. We like training (no big surprise there then), food, socialising, travel, sleeping, and keeping the flat clean and tidy.

  • Hi,

I ended up in your personal site and I am really impressed how you combine both your work and your training session. I am also a scientist and amateur triathlete trying to optimize my schedule week. I saw yours and I have a question. What do the ‘training’ sessions include?? Weight lifting, maybe??

    Thank you very much,
    Best Regards,
    Xavier

PS: I am from Calella and I am planning to take part of Challenge Barcelona again…see you there!!
